The 2019 Dr Del Doherty Lecture
You are invited to attend the 2019 Dr Del Doherty Lecture to be presented by
Pip Coore, Freda Bage Fellowship Recipient
The presentation, titled Does Queensland law afford adequate protection to older people and their carers?, considers some of the legal issues associated with family care agreements with the aim of understanding whether such agreements adequately protect older people and appropriately compensate caregiving adult children.
Pip Coore’s motivation in pursuing a D.Phil. at Oxford in the area of Elder Law was borne out of her personal concern that existing legislative frameworks inadequately protect older people and their caregiving family member(s). Her thesis mainly considers the position in Queensland but draws on useful research from countries with comparable health and aged care systems, particularly the United Kingdom and British Columbia Canada.
Pip holds a Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) (Hons) from Queensland University of Technology and a Bachelor of Journalism and a Bachelor of Communication, majoring in Public Relations, from the University of Queensland. Pip was called to the Bar in 2018. Prior to being called to the Bar, Pip was the Senior Associate to the Honourable Justice Edelman of the High Court of Australia.
The lecture will be followed by presentation of the Dr Del Dohery Bursary and a light lunch.
